Vacation in California so far

So here is a sum up of our trip so far:

One day one: we drove from Salt Lake City to Las Vegas. Then we found out that the hotel we were planning on staying at was out of smoke free rooms. So at 9 pm we had to look for a different hotel which we did.

On day two: we drove from Vegas to Huntington Beach. We woke up and had one a the famous Vegas style buffet for breakfast. As we drove the external temperature went from 104 while in the desert to 56 once we got through the mountain pass.
That night we took Uncle Mark out to eat by the Huntington Beach pier and went for a walk on the pier just enjoying the ocean and the pair of dolphins who were swimming by the pier. Which are Candy's favorite animal in the world so she was sooooo excited since there are not very many of them in Utah.

On day three: day three was our first full day of vacationing. First we went to the fashion district in downtown LA. There we were able to find me flip flops and Candy found two pairs of DG sunglasses, a pair of, to use her words sparklely pretty flowery flip flops, and, of course a purse that matched the shoes and glasses.
From there we moved on to Hollywood and the famous Chinese Theater where I was able to take a picture of Candy with Darth Vader and a Stormtrooper.
Then we drove the Beverly Hills to see where all of the rich people live.
After that we stopped by the LA Temple, which was very beautiful.
Then, we stopped for lunch and the Wholefoods Store where we had the best sandwich I have ever had.
Then, we hopped onto the the Pacific Coast Highway going past Candy's favorite place she lived at while in LA. As we when up the PCH we say many very expensive cars as well as breathtaking views. We went all the way up to Malibu and walked on the clif where Ironman's house "is". Then we drove along the coast all the way down back to Uncle Mark's place in Huntington Beach.
All in all it was a great day looking a beautiful places and things.

Subaru BRZ: The Porsche for those who can't afford one

Motor Trend Magazine recently reviewed the new Subaru BRZ and I must say it has been a while since I have been this excited about a car.
I like that it is a small coupe that had a lower center of gravity then a Porsche Cayman. It may only have 200 hp but it is the way that it uses and lets you utilize the performance that it has.

To quote the article "the rear-drive BRZ epitomizes confidence in motion." This is a car that need to be driven rather than read about.

All this makes me very excited to drive it and see what kind of car Subaru is making available to those of us who can't afford to spend over 60k on a car.

Thoughts on the New iPad

After hearing and see so much of the new iPad. I think that it is an excellent device with the high points being the new graphics processor and the 4G data speeds and the fact that the rear facing camera is now good enough that it is worth taking pictures with it.  The improved resolution is very nice but not a huge deal to me. In my opinion it is not worth getting over the the iPad 2 unless 1 or more of the following 3 things are applicable:

1. You plan on taking lots of pictures with the your iPad
2. You plan on playing many graphically intense games
or
3. You get the 4G for the 73Mbps data speed

Especially with the price drop of the iPad 2 in most cases it makes more sense to get that one over the new one.

Mazda 3 Skyactv and Mazda6i 2.5

About two weeks ago I had a chance to test drive the new Mazda 3 with the Skyactv engine and transmission as well as the Mazda6i 2.5.

Mazda3 skyactv:
I would like to preface this by saying that I was very excited to drive this car as it is a "fun to drive 40mpg car."

Pros: The pros of this car consist of the fuel economy and the power.

Cons: I did not like the other all feel of the car. It was a good car but I did not feel like the engine and the transmission were working together all of the time. The power train just had a somewhat unfinished feel.

Mazda6i 2.5:

Pros: This car felt stable and refined. It was sporty and responsive. The car as a hole inspired confidence and asked you to push it just a little further.

Cons: The only con I can feel is that the fuel economy is not near the top of the class.

In conclusion, as it stands I am not a fan of the skyactv engine and transmission.  It adds an fuel economy but leaves you feeling like the car will break at any time.
